Ameritrans Capital Corporation was formed in 1998 to engage in lending and investment activities, primarily with small and medium-sized businesses, directly and through subsidiaries. Though Ameritrans was recently formed, the company has a long and established history as a result of its share for share exchange with Elk Associates Funding Corporation (formerly Nasdaq: EKFG) in December 1999. Elk was licensed by the U.S. Small Business Administration in 1980, as a Minority Enterprise Small Business Investment Company. In its 27 year business history, Elk has made several thousand loans and investments and is presently a regular Small Business Investment Company.
